Is There a Train from Malaga to Marbella?
No. Marbella is one of the largest towns in Spain without a railway station. The C-1 Cercanías commuter train runs from Málaga city and Málaga Airport along the coast as far as Fuengirola, where the line ends. From Fuengirola you would need to change to a bus to reach Marbella, which usually takes longer overall than the direct Avanza coach from the airport.
A coastal railway extending to Marbella has been discussed for decades. In early 2026 the Spanish government described a first stage between Fuengirola and Marbella as feasible, but no construction date has been set, so don’t expect a train any time soon.
Marbella to Malaga: Getting Back
- To the airport by bus: Avanza coaches leave from Marbella bus station for Málaga Airport. Book ahead in summer, check the timetable for your day of travel and leave plenty of time, as the bus station is on the northern edge of town.

Does Marbella Have an Airport?
No, Marbella does not have its own airport. The nearest and by far the most convenient is Málaga-Costa del Sol Airport (AGP), around 50 km away and served by flights from across the UK, Ireland and Europe. The main alternative is Gibraltar Airport (GIB) to the south-west, which has some flights from the UK; it is roughly an hour or more away by road, and you will need to cross the border into Spain.
